The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field.
The parables of Jesus are sometimes explained by Him in scripture, and sometimes they are left to interpretation. Among theologians those interpretations often vary, as is the case with this parable of the Kingdom of Heaven. The traditional interpretation makes Jesus, as the Savior of the world, the treasure in the field, and this makes perfect sense. The person who discovers this treasure gives up everything in order to have salvation and a relationship with Jesus.
A different interpretation has the church of Jesus Christ as the treasure. God sacrifices His most precious possession, His own Son, in order to purchase the true believers from the clutches of sin out of a broken world.
I don’t know exactly what Jesus meant when He gave us this parable, but it seems that nothing else matters to God but relationship with His people. it should make us feel pretty special to think that God places such high value on His people that He would go to such lengths to redeem us!
